The first rail freight service from the UK to China departed last month. Thirty containers filled with British produced goods set off on the 7,500-mile journey from Stanford-le-Hope, Essex.

After passing through the France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazahkstan the train finally arrived at Yiwu, eastern China.

With a transit time of 20 days the journey is faster than sea freight and cheaper than air freight.

Cardinal are the first NVOCC from the UK to offer this service.
