Our charity team the Cardinal Trust have made the decision to sponsor a minibus for local charity the Stockport CP Society. The Stockport CP Society provides a wide range of activities and support for adults and children with physical and/or learning disabilities, and autistic spectrum conditions. They particularly focus on individuals with the most complex needs, and currently support over 900 people across the North West to live a more independent life. The specially adapted minibus is used to transport disabled adults, children and young people, and is a much needed asset for the charity.
Stella Morris who works for Stockport CP said, “I received a phone call from the Cardinal Maritime Trust asking how they could get involved with our charity. They explained how they support many charities and told me of some of the amazing work that they do locally. After seeing our website they really liked what Stockport CP is about and wanted to offer support to us. It seemed fitting to sponsor one of our minibuses because they’re in the business of freight and logistics. We are really lucky that they chose us”.
Our sponsorship of the minibus included a donation of £1,500 to the charity, and we also paid for the minibus to be branded with the charity’s logo alongside our own.
Adrian Rigby-Bates, the charity fundraiser said, “I’d like to thank Cardinal Maritime for their generosity. The money will help with the ongoing costs of keeping the minibus on the road. Transport is a lifeline for many of the people who use our services and it’s great to see a global company support a local cause”.
Gemma Hudson and Marie Carmody from the Cardinal Trust team visited Stockport CP’s Skills Group day service in Heaton Moor and presented the cheque to some members of the group. Gemma said, “Our Company is proud to sponsor the minibus. We know that transport is a really important service to people who attend Stockport CP. It enables groups to access social and learning experiences out in the community in a safe and secure way and it’s a pleasure to be able to support this”.

Social responsibility is a big part of what we stand for here at Cardinal. Each year our charity committee the Cardinal Trust nominates a number of charities – local, national and international – to support. Our staff raise funds through taking part in a host of activities throughout the year, including sponsored runs and bike rides, our monthly dress down day, and many more. We feel it’s a great opportunity for our team members to bond, to engage with the wider community, and to give something back and share our success with those in need. Every year the Cardinal Trust nominates a charity to make a special Christmas donation to as part of our ongoing commitment to sharing our success and vision with the community that supports us. This year we’ve chosen to make our Christmas donation to the Wellspring centre for homeless and disadvantaged people in Stockport, a charity close to our hearts and one our team have supported before, notably as our nominated charity during this year’s Great Manchester Run.
The Wellspring provides support for homeless and vulnerable people, including food services, shower facilities, clean clothing, blankets and sleeping bags, as well as a range of advice and support services including mediation, support with phone calls, utility accounts and much more. The centre is open 365 days a year and is dependent on donations from the general public, local businesses, schools, churches and other organisations. For more information, visit their website.
Giving something back to the community is a big part of the Cardinal Maritime philosophy and we were very proud to be able to help a local charity over the festive season.

Our November Dress Down Day was in aid of a very special cause – we raised £250 for Children in Need as part of their annual appeal. We were lucky enough to receive a visit from Pudsey himself to thank the Cardinal staff for their fundraising efforts!
Children in Need provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. The charity is local to people in all corners of the UK and supports small and large organisations which empower children and extend their life choices. Here at Cardinal we’re proud to be able to contribute to this very worthy cause.

This July the Cardinal Maritime cycling team will be biking from Manchester United football ground to Blackpool’s South Promenade in order to raise money for Donna’s Dream House, following on from last year’s success. Micky Simmonds, Ashley Mellon, Charlie McGonagle, Chris Day, Laura Simmonds, Erica Hutchinson, Ben Capsey, Nicola Barker, Peter Campbell, Emily Plant and Matthew Rhind are hoping to raise £500 for the charity.
Donna’s Dream House, based in Blackpool, provides free holiday experiences for children and teenagers with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and for recently bereaved siblings and their families. The charity relies on donations in order to carry out its good work, and we felt that it was such a good cause that we’re supporting it for the second year running. We hope you’ll help us to raise money for this very worthy cause!
