Team Cardinal take on Tough Mudder!

tough-mudder

At Cardinal Maritime we believe in hard work, team work, and giving something back.  We’re involved with charity work through the Cardinal Trust and as we love a challenge, 15 members of staff are taking on the Tough Mudder challenge on 12th September 2015.

Team Cardinal will consist of:

  • Paul Carroll
  • Craig Cooper
  • Katie Thomas
  • Ashley Fox
  • Craig Parren
  • Arya Amiry
  • Rick White
  • Davina Wilson
  • Heidi Coates
  • Claire Sumner
  • Elizabeth Holt
  • Rebecca Couper
  • Carolyn Capsey
  • Hannah Imam

We will be taking on this mammoth task of endurance in order to raise money for the Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre at Wythenshawe hospital.  The money will go towards providing more care to the patients as well as new equipment and amenities. If you’d like to donate to Team Cardinal, please visit justgiving.com/Cardinal-maritime.

This charity is close to our hearts due to one of our own, Chris Grogan, suffering from this illness.  We hope you can help us reach our target and if you would like to cheer us on at the event, get in touch and we will provide information on supporters’ tickets.

“When work told me that they were going to raise money for the Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre in Wythenshawe hospital I was very pleased as I lost my brother to the illness 7 years ago and I myself am a sufferer. I was diagnosed at 4 weeks old and was very ill as a baby. My family thought I wasn’t going to make it but somehow I pulled through after months in hospital. I tend to lead a normal life but with chronic chest problems it is difficult.

A usual day for me is getting up and doing inhalers in the morning, followed by physio to clear my chest for the day. I have to take a range of tablets throughout the day with meals and snacks as CF patients can’t digest food properly. I also suffer from CF-related diabetes so have to inject insulin as well with my food. After doing this for 26 years I am pretty used to it all, but I still get a little self-conscious with taking tablets and injecting in public. CF affects people in a range of different ways; some days you can be feeling great and can tackle anything and the next you are struggling to breathe and have a chest infection which can floor you for several days or weeks. I have been very lucky with my illness, I know others that I follow on Twitter who unfortunately cannot say the same.

Cardinal Maritime have raised money for the CF unit and the team there are very grateful for any support they receive. The staff at the hospital would do anything to accommodate patients and funding is very important. I myself am thankful to Cardinal also – I have been here 7 now and although I have had a lot of time off with my illness they have been so supportive and understanding.”

The Captain’s Mediterranean service is now better than ever

Captain Mediterranean croppedThe Cardinal Maritime story began 18 years ago, with our first ever consolidation services to the Mediterranean. This was the beginning of a quickly growing Mediterranean service, which gave the company’s original founders the confidence to expand the business and set it on the road to where it is today, with many of our original agents still with us now.

This spring, we’re taking a fresh look at our Mediterranean service – we’ve reviewed our rates and services and are offering reduced rates to Israel, Egypt, Malta and Cyprus. To have a discussion about your individual requirements, contact your Account Manager or email the Commercial Team at commercial@cardinalmaritime.com for the latest rates and service information.

The Cardinal Trust supports Stockport CP

stockport-cpOur charity team the Cardinal Trust have made the decision to sponsor a minibus for local charity the Stockport CP Society. The Stockport CP Society provides a wide range of activities and support for adults and children with physical and/or learning disabilities, and autistic spectrum conditions. They particularly focus on individuals with the most complex needs, and currently support over 900 people across the North West to live a more independent life. The specially adapted minibus is used to transport disabled adults, children and young people, and is a much needed asset for the charity.

Stella Morris who works for Stockport CP said, “I received a phone call from the Cardinal Maritime Trust asking how they could get involved with our charity. They explained how they support many charities and told me of some of the amazing work that they do locally. After seeing our website they really liked what Stockport CP is about and wanted to offer support to us. It seemed fitting to sponsor one of our minibuses because they’re in the business of freight and logistics. We are really lucky that they chose us”.

Our sponsorship of the minibus included a donation of £1,500 to the charity, and we also paid for the minibus to be branded with the charity’s logo alongside our own.

Adrian Rigby-Bates, the charity fundraiser said, “I’d like to thank Cardinal Maritime for their generosity. The money will help with the ongoing costs of keeping the minibus on the road. Transport is a lifeline for many of the people who use our services and it’s great to see a global company support a local cause”.

Gemma Hudson and Marie Carmody from the Cardinal Trust team visited Stockport CP’s Skills Group day service in Heaton Moor and presented the cheque to some members of the group. Gemma said, “Our Company is proud to sponsor the minibus. We know that transport is a really important service to people who attend Stockport CP. It enables groups to access social and learning experiences out in the community in a safe and secure way and it’s a pleasure to be able to support this”.

If you’d like to find out more about the work of Stockport CP, you can call 0161 432 1248 or email enquiries@stockportcp.co.uk. To find out more about the work of the Cardinal Trust in general, please email charity@cardinalmaritime.com.
